Will deer keep coming back when they don't find food?

We wondered the same thing! So, in 2019 we tested the Odin's Apple scented beads with an outfitter (managing 500-acres in the Ohio River Valley and Northern Kentucky) to determine:Did it work? Are scent attractants considered baiting?

In most states, no. Odin's scent attractants are not normally classified as bait because they contain no consumable food material, provide no nutritional value and do not contain salt. These are the three considerations we found common across most states. Our beads and liquids produce an aroma that attracts deer to investigate. However, regulations vary by state. Always check your state's specific baiting and attractant regulations before deploying.

What deer attractants should I use with trail cameras for summer scouting?

The Odin's long-lasting beads are a great attractant to use with trail cameras. When doing advance scouting, you can put up trail cameras in multiple locations and put out just one bottle of Odin's beads that will be effective for a month! You will learn a lot more going to six (6) camera locations a month than one (1) camera location six times a month!

Is corn or a scent attractant better for deer?

Scent attractants offer significant advantages over corn! Odin's scent beads release scent for 30-days. Corn is consumed within 2-3 days. Fewer trips: 80% fewer field visits (4 vs. 20 per season). Lower overall cost: Over 30-days you use one bottle of Odin's or 8-10 bags of corn. And that does not even consider your time and the cost of gasoline. Odin's does not suffer from spoilage or mold in warm weather. Legal in many jurisdictions where corn baiting is restricted.

What other food scents do deer like?

It depends on what other sources have been available in your hunting area. Apple works everywhere. Acorn is great unless you've had a heavy harvest year — we can't compete with Mother Nature's blanket of acorns. Peanut butter, persimmon, and pear have all worked well, even in areas where they're not naturally occurring. The novelty factor drives investigation. Odin's synthetic scent accurately replicates the intended aroma and retains its strength the entire 30-days or more.

Which attracts more deer, apple scent vs acorn scent?

If acorns have always been available, acorn attracts more deer. If you've had a heavy harvest year and acorns are readily available, our acorn scent will not compete. Apple works everywhere. Persimmon and pear are good alternatives, too.

Corn seems to be favored IF you're in "corn country" where deer have grown to expect the availability of corn. Apple has proven to be more universally attractive and persimmon and pear are good alternatives, too.

From our experience: sometimes. Mother Nature is fickle. We've had it perform great in one spot and 70 miles over in the next county, nothing.
